UK Cyber Essentials Technical Preparation

UK Cyber Essentials Technical Preparation

Technical preparation for UK Cyber Essentials certification, focused on getting the IT environment ready before the self-assessment or external review. The certification is built around five technical control areas: firewalls, secure configuration, user access control, malware protection, and security update management.

Designed for startups and small businesses that want practical support before submitting the Cyber Essentials questionnaire. The preparation work focuses on closing technical gaps, improving documentation, and aligning day-to-day systems with the current assessment requirements, including the updated Willow question set introduced from 28 April 2025.

Microsoft 365 / Google Workspace, Wazuh Endpoint Defense (EDR/XDR), IT Asset Management (ITAM), Firewalls, Secure Configuration Baselines, Remote Monitoring and Management (Tactical RMM / NinjaOne RMM)

US$ 1,500

Operational cost example:

Assumptions: A small UK company with 5 to 10 users wants Cyber Essentials technical preparation before certification. The business already has modern laptops, a basic business firewall, Microsoft 365, and endpoint protection in place, so the main work is checking the five control areas, cleaning up admin access, confirming patching, and preparing evidence for submission.

In this case, a 10-hour Foundation prep package is enough for a light gap review and a short remediation list if the setup is already close to compliant. If the company needs more hands-on fixes, the better fit is a 20-hour package that covers secure configuration, firewall review, patch checks, and submission support.

Once the environment is aligned, the company purchases certification directly through IASME or a certification body. IASME pricing starts at £320 + VAT for micro organisations, £440 + VAT for small organisations, £500 + VAT for medium organisations, and £600 + VAT for large organisations, with fees based on employee count.
